Art + politics: Grounding Dialogue

November 2nd-December 19th, 2019 | MOCA Jax

This was my first time showcasing my printmaking abilities at an art institution of such high status. I signed up for a printmaking course during the Fall Semester in which we had to complete a 4 ft by 8 ft woodcarving that blurred the lines between art and politics. I chose to emphasize police brutality and how the victims of these deadly encounters could be someone you know further confronting the viewer with phrases like “your brother,” “your friend,” “your son.” After spending nearly 3 months working on the woodblock, we took our blocks to FSCJ South Campus where they have a fantastic printmaking studio and the students there hold a printmaking event called Blocktober Fest. At this event we worked collectively to ink up blocks and then a steamroller would be used to roll over the block. It was such a fun and collaborative environment! I will never forget that experience and the kind people I worked and bonded with. More Info Here
