FIFTY: An Alumni Exhibition
March 25th, 2022-February 12th, 2023
This was the second time that I got to display my artwork titled “Black Bodies,” but this time it felt different. My 4’x8’ print was acquired by the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville and to see that information included on my title card was an overwhelming experience. Up until that point I have never had my artwork owned by an art institution. This moment shaped the way I viewed my printmaking and art career. At the time, I was fairly new to art education and trying to figure out the balance between teaching art and practicing it. Having this opportunity reminded me that I can still be a professional artist and educator. More Info Here
At the time of the opening reception I was engaged and just 3 months out from being married. It was funny to tell my students the following year that I had a piece in the show at MOCA Jax and they were looking for my new name Deja Gee but couldn’t find it.
