louder than fear
April 25th, 2025 | Yellow House Art Gallery
This show was curated to elevate voices of the community about current issues and topics that have been weighing on us. I chose to submit an art piece inspired by my students and the artwork they’ve created with my colleague, Ingrid Damiani. She developed a curriculum of exploration with photography and embroidery. With her encouragement, I created a digital photography piece that incorporated images of countries going through political warfare and genocide. Incorporated in the piece is a poem written by Niveah Glover and embroidered patterns that come from Palestine. This piece pushed me beyond my typical scope of work and is titled “Mother of the Unfathomables.” More Info Here
To the right is the digital piece I created. I used a majority of this collage as a plan and then physically cut out paper for the radiating halo around the female figure. Also, I cut out the figure entirely so it is more raised from the surface. The pattern is the plan I used to do embroidery on the printed photo.
Depicted above my piece is Ricder Ricardo’s piece “The Jump.”
