The Face Behind PRCKLY.PEAR

Hello! My name is Deja Gee and I am an illustrator/educator based in Jacksonville, FL. I graduated from UNF with a BFA in Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking with a minor in Psychology.

My most recent work focuses on the complexity of uncomfortable feelings and how they take root in different people. Most of my illustrations are created through the use of digital programs like Procreate but I am mainly a printmaker at heart. I have had the opportunity to showcase my prints in galleries in New York, Atlanta, and Miami as well as a group exhibition at Yellow House and FSCJ South Campus.

Currently, I am developing a series of illustrative work as well as traditional art that reflects my interests in art and politics while also going through my own personal journey of self-acceptance. I have always enjoyed creating art that expresses who I am as well as the culture I come from.

I love to create silly illustrations of characters spanning all types of emotions from deeply sensitive to furious. There are so many emotions that we keep hidden so I like to address the uncomfortable feelings that we all share.
