I was approached by Kat Tarbet @kat.culture to submit artwork to a show she was putting together that involved artists from all over Jacksonville. I submitted my piece “Unrecognizable” because it emphasized this idea of transformation and changing into something else. With all of the political turmoil and distress in the world, I created this piece as way of tryign to process this discomfort I was feeling. I was struggling with my sense of self and my faith was slipping away. Initally this painting started with a doodle of the hooded figure and then things started to take form. The discomfort I was feeling was starting to seep into my work life and I felt myself transforming into something unrecognizable. In the left corner I journaled about these thorny/prickly feelings and it became the title of the piece. More Info Here
This piece was also in the Pink Palette exhibtion curated by Troy Walden (Aug. 1-15th, 2026) and was published in the Spaces and Places anthology created by Women Writing for a Change.
